Wandering in Pattaya, Thailand

We've wandered halfway around the world - to Pattaya, Thailand - a large resort and industrial port city about two hours away from Bangkok. Thailand time is exactly 12 hours ahead of home (Texas) so it is 11:40 am here.

This is one view from our room...

Consider this...we left home at 2:15 pm Monday and arrived here at 10:30 am Wednesday...about 32 hours door to door if my addled brain is calculating correctly. We flew Singapore Airlines (WOW! What a great airline.) from Houston to Moscow for 10 1/2 hours, had a one hour layover, then reboarded to fly to Singapore for 9 1/2 hours, another layover of about two hours, then a two hour flight to Bangkok, and finally a two hour drive to Pattaya.

I read three newspapers, watched two movies, three episodes of Modern Family and two of Two and a Half Men, and dozed off and on in the economy section while Tom was pampered and had a foldout bed up in first class. We are traveling with three of Tom's co-workers and another wife, Darlene; the guys for business, she and I for pleasure.

I have no idea what this sign says, but find Thailand's alphabet fascinating - and undecipherable.

Fortunately, everyone seems to speak English. And once again, I feel so ignorant, only speaking one language.

We are staying at a Hilton highrise resort on the ocean. This is one view from the 16th floor lobby.

And more from our room...

Our change of clothes and shower was refreshing and we are resting up a bit and enjoying the views from our room on the 31st floor before heading out for some sightseeing and shopping. Tom has a business meeting at 3 pm and a dinner at 5 pm. Tonight we are going to the famous Walking Street...to people watch. We were able to sleep a lot on the planes so hopefully jet lag will not catch up to us.

Tomorrow we have a driver to take Darlene and I shopping, to a botanical garden and somewhere to ride elephants!!! YOLO!!!!
